Do you have the photographers eye? Know your filters from your focus? Prove it!
In the recent patch we introduced Photo Mode to Strange Brigade! Before you get stuck-in we ask our Head of Creative Tim Jones for his 5 top tips in creating a great in-game photo.
Also don’t forget to check out the Photo Competition we have just started!
The rule of thirds.
Move the camera around to frame your subject. Use the rule of thirds to achieve a pleasing composition – Imagine your image split into thirds both vertically and horizontally to make a grid of nine rectangles. Try to align important compositional elements (e.g. your hero or the horizon) along or near the lines and their intersections on the grid.
Set the scene.
Adjust the Field of View slider to zoom in or out on your subject. A wide Field of View will show a lot more of the scene and emphasize perspective. A narrow Field of View is best for focusing on individual elements and de-emphasises perspective.
What’s your focus?
Turn on Depth of Field to blur the foreground and background for a classic photographic style and make sure the viewer is looking at the part of your image you want them to. You can adjust the part of the scene that is in focus with the Focal Distance slider, and vary the amount of blurring with the Aperture slider.
Experiment with filters lighting and overlays.
Experiment with the Filters and Overlays for different aesthetics – from old black and white photo to postcards and even crazy psychedelia!
Creating a little drama!
You can roll the camera to add a little Dutch tilt – often used to add a little drama, tension or unease. It can be great for action shots!
